Carrot Seed Essential Oil
Daucus Carota
• Earthy
• Sweet
• Woody
Properties
This is a non-staining oil with the characteristic smell of carrots. Generally considered to be very safe, it is still best to avoid this one during pregnancy.
This is a calming (carminative) and gentle oil that has long been used for its medicinal value. It contains vitamin A and carotene which work together in promoting healthy cell regeneration and healing.
It has excellent detoxifying effects, especially on the liver and joints, and is good for relieving fluid retention.
Is invaluable for use in skin care (revitalising and toning), especially for mature or oily skin, where it is nourishing and good for fine lines and wrinkles. Its healing effect on the skin also makes it invaluable in treating cases of dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and rashes.
For women it has been suggested that it can help with irregular or absent periods (amenorrhoea and dysmenorrhoea), as well as glandular problems and PMT.
In addition it is toning and cleansing and leaves skin looking firmer and smoother, making it good for use in combating cellulite.
Perhaps its main use today is in treating cancer patients, especially those with stomach and throat problems. It is believed that it is the carminative and cleansing properties of the oil which have an effect. This said I would never make claims that this oil can be used as an alternative to conventional treatment. In addition, essential oils should not be used whilst undergoing chemotherapy, and the advise of a doctor should be sought before recommencing their use.
Its ability to relieve water retention and cleanse the body of toxins makes it useful for use with gout, arthritis, rheumatism, oedema and cellulite.
